35mm Moss Agate drop pear Custom designer cut gemstone cabochon 35 by 23 by 4.5mm 29ct
Moss agate (also called mocha stone) is a semi-precious gemstone formed from silicon dioxide. It is a form of chalcedony which includes minerals of a green colour embedded in the stone, forming filaments and other patterns suggestive of moss. which can be blue, yellow, black and sometimes even bright and deep red – this is rare to find. The colors are formed due to trace amounts of metal present as an impurity, such as manganese, chromium or iron. The metals can make different colors depending on the amount the specimen contains. In particular the red color is the result of iron oxide and the black color is the result of manganese oxide.
Moss Agate is found in Australia, Russia, India and in the USA. t is also on the zodiac birthstones list as it is both an Aquarius birthstone, a Cancer birthstone and a Virgo birthstone.
Moss Agate is a chalcedony and formed when viscous silicic acid has been penetrated with iron silicate solutions without becoming mixed. This creates the moss green inclusions.
